I was talking to the wife last night as we sat by the meager fire trying to keep warm while we read by candlelight. 
&quot;Sweety&quot;, I said (I call her that sometimes), &quot;we&#039;ve got enough wood for one more fire, enough bread in the oven for one more meal, and enough leather to make one more pair of shoes. Perhaps life isn&#039;t so bad after all&quot;. 
She didn&#039;t answer right away, her book lowered to her lap, she snuggled closer to me and tucked her head into my neck. 
&quot;Perhaps&quot;, she said.
We sat there for quite a while watching the fire glow in the dim light before we rose together and shuffled off to bed.</description>
